Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is the top team with 12 points from four matches. Their rival contenders are defending champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) and Bandar Penawar SS-Thunderbolt.
These two teams are with nine points after three matches. Thus there is not likely to be any changes at the top as all three teams are expected to win. All three teams have just one match to play this weekend.
On Friday BJSS will play MSS Kelantan away while BPSS-Thunderbolt will meet Anderson at home. UniKL will only play on Sunday against Bukit Jalil SS Juniors.
BPSS-Thunderbolt coach wan Roslan Wan Rahman said yesterday that collecting three points is crucial and will not under estimate Anderson who go into the match after losing twice in a row.
“They (Anderson) are still a dangerous team and we will not take any chances against them. For us the three points is very important to stay in the title race.
“So we will have to play hard and ensure we convert the chances that come our way,” he said.
The Bandar Penawar team also has an impressive scoring rate with 17 goals in three matches. They are surpassed only by UniKl who has scored 22 goals in the four matches.
The three teams also know that in the end goal difference might play a crucial role in the title race.
BJSS coach S. Prakash lamented on his team’s poor scoring rate where they have scored only seven goals.
“We are missing too many chances and our play has not been that good either. Against Anderson we made hard weather of our win.
“We need to improve fast and make sure we eliminate the mistakes in our defence,” he said.
Anderson faces another tough weekend as they chase to remain in the top five in the standings.
Besides the BPSS-Thunderbolt team they also have to travel to Kuala Terengganu for the match against MSS Kelantan.
Anderson coach Mokhtar Baharuddin said the fight to be among the top five will be great as well.
“I think it is safe to say the top three places will be taken up by the current leaders. But teams like the Kelantan outfit and MBPJ are very much in the reckoning. So we need to win the matches against the lower teams to ensure we are in the top five,” he added.
The top five teams from Division One and the top three from Division Two will qualify for the knockout stage.
For leaders UniKL their matches with BJSS Juniors is the first in the series of four matches with the sports school sides.
BJSS is next weekend followed by BPSS-Thundebolt on MY 7. Their last match in the preliminary round is against BPSS Juniors.
Some of the matches in Division One over the next two weekends could be postponed due to the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
