REVIEW WEEK TWO

While debutants UniKL have been creating a storm in the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League, the threat of Bandar Penawar Sports School-Thunderbolt cannot be ignored.

UniKL picked up vital wins over Anderson and Petaling Jaya MC but their drop in form in the match against the Petaling Jaya side must surely be a cause of concern for coach I. Vikneswaran.

“Winning matches is one thing, but consistency is what is required in a tournament like this,” conceded Vikneswaran.

“We have to be sharper in front of goal and make use the chances that come our way.

“Against the likes of the two sports schools, chances will be few in between, hence I will work on the finishing aspect of the team in training.

“Nonetheless I am happy with the overall performances and we are on the right track so far.”

But while Vickneswaran and his players sit pretty on the top of the table, it is the TNB assisted SBBP-Thunderbolt that could well derail their chances of winning the league title.

Powered by national player, Faisal Saari, the team that has benefited from the technical expertise provided by the likes of Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin and Lailin Abu Hassan have been keeping in touch with UniKL, winning all their three matches thus far and are in second spot with nine points, having played a game less then leaders UniKL.

SSBP-Thunderbolt has been impressive having scored a total of 17 goals and conceding only three. In Faisal, they have a poacher extraordinaire but he is well supported by the likes of Mohd Firhan Ashari and Mohd Haniff Mohd Saidin can be counted upon to deliver the goals, as evident in the 8-1 rout over MSS Kelantan on Sunday.

Their pedigree will soon be put to a severe test this coming weekend as they play host to Anderson. However the form of the Ipoh team has left much to be desired as they play rather badly away from home.

In the second division, Tunku Besar Secondary School failed to take advantage of MSN Sabah’s inactivity and only managed to draw their matches last weekend.

Having played two matches more then the East Malaysian side, TBSS will have to start winning again if they want to put pressure on the Sabahans.
