UniKL emerged champions of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior League when they defeated SSBP Thunderbolt 2-1 in the final at the Tun Razak Stadium.
The win denied SSBP a double but they have only themselves to blame for missing the chances created.
SSBP messed up their second penalty corner in the 31st minute and UniKL launched a quick counter attack with Mohd Ramadan Rosli setting up the ball for Amir Farid Ahmad Fuzi to tap into goal with keeper Mohd Fareez Nari Musa beaten.
In the 41st minute, SSBP were on level terms. A penalty corner attempt by Faisal Saari was deemed to have hit a UniKL defender on the foot and umpire Rosdi Pilus after consulting fellow umpire P.Balamurly, awarded a penalty stroke which Faisal duly put away to tie the score at 1-1.
In the 45th minute Mohd Firhan Ashaari could have given SSBP the lrad when he went around UniKL keeper Shahrul Azaddin but pushed the ball wide with the defence completely beaten.
SSBJ were dictating play but could not make use of the chances that came their way due to over individualistic play by their forwards.
Mohd Aminuddin Abu, younger brother of national discard Ismail Abu went on a solo run in the 61st minute before unleashing a thunderous shot to give UniKL a 2-1 lead against the run of play.
Aminuddin could have put the issue beyond doubt but missed a sitter two minutes later.

BJSS FINISH THIRD
Bukit Jalil Sports School finished third in the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League when they defeated Petaling Jaya City Council 5-1.
Ahmad Termidzi Ismail opened scoring in the 11th minute to give BJSS the lead.
He doubled the advantage in the 45th minute when he converted a penalty corner.
Fahed Saifulah Shahrom Jamil made it 3-0 in the 51st minute.
Muhamad Hafiz Nawi reduced the deficit in the 59th minute but BJSS made sure of the third spot with two more goals via Kavin Kartik and Faridzul Afiq Mohamad in the 64th and 67th minutes respectively.
BJSS took home RM7,000 for their effort while PJCC had to be contended with RM5,000 for finishing fourth.

MBPJ FOUR SUSPENDED
MBPJ will be without four players for their 3/4th placing match of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League against Bukit Jalil Sports School tomorrow.
While goalkeeper Ahmad Syahir Mohd Noor sits out as a result of the red card he received in the semi final clash against BPSS Thunderbolt, three of his team mates were handed one match suspension for abusing the umpires and technical officials after the final whistle of the ill tempered semis match.
Shaharul Dennis Ruslan Henry, Mohamad Rashid Baharom and Mohamad Fahmi Ashari were given a one match suspension by the Technical Committee for ungentlemanly conduct after the match.
While the trio were spared further punishment, Ahmad Syahir will have to face the MHF Disciplinary Board for man handling umpire Rosdi Pilus.

Faeez gave his team the lead on the stroke of halftime via another penalty corner.

GOLDEN GOAL DOES THE TRICK FOR MBPJ
Fahmi Faiz scored a golden goal in the 82nd minute to steer Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to a hard fought 3-2 win over Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS) Juniors and a spot in the semi-finals of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League (MJHL) at the Tun Razak Stadium yesterday.
MBPJ, the 2006 overall champions, scored two quick goals in the second half through Fahmi (40th minute) and Hafiz Nawi (41st) before BPSS Juniors hit back through Firhan Ashaari (57th and 70th) to force the match into sudden-death extra-time.
MBPJ will face Division One winners BPSS-Thunderbolt in today’s semi-final at the same venue (4pm).
The other semi-final will be between defending champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) and debutants Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) at the same venue (6pm).
In yesterday’s match, MBPJ created more chances but had to wait until after the break to score two quick goals.
Forward Fahmi put the PJ team ahead in the 40th minute when he beat two defenders before scoring from the top D.
Barely a minute later MBPJ made it 2-0 with a field goal by Hafiz.
Just when it looked like MBPJ were coasting to victory, BPSS Juniors took advantage of their rivals’ poor defending to score two penalty corner goals in the last 13 minutes.
Firhan reduced the deficit in the 57th minute. Then, in the very last minute, he made no mistake from the top D to flick a high ball into the net to force the game into extra-time.
MBPJ were the stronger side in extra-time, earning three penalty corners in a row. And it was left to Fahmi to crack home the golden goal in the 82nd minute.
MBPJ assistant team manager Zanal Abidin Ismail said that his forwards missed a lot of sitters in the match.
“We created so many chances but just could not score in the first-half. However, I am happy that my boys played well to score the golden goal,” said Zanal, who expects BPSS-Thunderbolt to start out as favourites “because they had beaten us 4-1 in the league”.
“It will be tough for us to beat BPSS-Thunderbolt because they have 10 players from the Project 2013 squad. I also hope my boys will be able to recover after playing a tough match against BPSS Juniors today,” said Zanal.
The other semi-final between BJSS and UniKL is expected to be a close affair as well as both the teams drew 1-1 in the league.
BJSS coach S. Prakash is keeping his fingers crossed that his players would rise to the occasion.
“The pressure will be on us as we are the defending champions. We failed to retain the league title but I hope my boys will give their best to reach the final,” said Prakash.

THREE CONFIRM SEMIS SPOT
Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS)-Thunderbolt hammered Ipoh City Council 9-1 to qualify for the semi-finals of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League (MJHL) at the Tun Razak Stadium yesterday.
National forward Faisal Saari grabbed a hattrick with goals in the 19th, 31st and 57th minutes.
BPSS-Thunderbolt’s other goals came from Firhan Ashaari (15th, 68th), Fitri Saari (16th), Faiz Helmi Jali (24th), Shaiful Nizam Aswan (46th) and Fahmi Zainal Abidin (52nd).
Halted: Ipoh City Council's B. Sarveen thwarts an attempt by BPSS-Thunderbolt's Faiz Helmi at the Tun Razak Stadium yesterday. Ipoh City Council, who finished third in Division Two, got a consolation goal through Azrul Fazri in the 50th minute.
BPSS-Thunderbolt coach Wan Roslan Wan Abdul Rahman said he never expected his boys to chalk up such a big win.
“I was expecting a strong challenge from the Ipoh team but it turned out to be a very one-sided match,” said Wan Roslan.
“It was a good morale-boosting win for us ahead of the semi-finals.”
Division One champions BPSS-Thunderbolt, however, will have to wait until tomorrow to know who their opponents will be in the semi-finals.
This is because the quarter-final clash between Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and BPSS Juniors will be played tomorrow as six of the Johor sports school’s players will only be returning from Germany today after featuring in the four-nation Under-16 tournament.
Defending champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) also reached the semi-finals with a 4-0 thumping of Division Two champions MSN Sabah at the same venue.
S. Kavin Kartik also bagged a hat-trick, with his three penalty corner goals coming in the 16th, 32nd and 51st minutes. Dangerous Lee chipped in with a goal in the 43rd minute.
BJSS will face debutants Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) in Friday’s semi-finals.
UniKL staved off a strong challenge from Division Two runners-up MSS Pahang to win 4-2 at the KL Hockey Stadium.
Nor Hizat Sumantri, who just returned home after playing in the Dutch Division Two, scored a brace in the 58th and 65th minute. The other UniKL goals were scored by Sabri Mohamed (2nd) and Manraj Singh (19th).
Fahmi Abdullah (10th) and Zulhannan Mazlan (67th) replied for Pahang.

THUNDERBOLTS SHOULD HAVE IT EASY
NEWLY-minted Division One champions Bandar Penawar Sports School-Thunderbolt (BPSS) should have an easy time against Division Two outfit Ipoh City Council in their MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League quarter-final today.
Ipoh CC finished third in Division Two, and it should be a lopsided tie at the Tun Razak Stadium.
The battle of the day will be between Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), third in Division One, against Division Two champions Sabah.
Only three matches will be held today, with the Petaling Jaya City Council (PJCC)-BJSS Juniors quarter-final slated for Thursday as six of the sports school's players are in Germany playing in an Under-16 Four-Nation.
Sabah coach Paul Raj feels his players have an even chance against seven-time champions BJSS.
"Compared to the other two top teams from Division One, we will be better off playing BJSS in the last eight. We know the quarter-finals will be tough, but there is no other way to become the Overall champions.
"Winning the Division Two title has given my players much confidence and we hope to pull off a few surprises in the knock-out stage."
BJSS coach S. Prakash knows it would be foolish to take the Division Two outfit lightly.
"This is a one-off tie, so you cannot write off any team. There is no insurance of a rematch this year," he said.
"My players are motivated enough for the Overall challenge. We have nothing to lose and the pressure will be on the two top teams from Division One.
"We will not take any team lightly and there is a good chance that we will face UniKL and BPSS-Thunderbolt in the semis and final," he added.
The semi-finals will be played on Friday while the final is on Sunday at the Tun Razak Stadium.
UNIKL FACE TOUGH HURDLE
KUALA LUMPUR: MSS Pahang intend to vent their frustration – at failing to win the Division Two title – on Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) when the two teams clash in the quarter-finals of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League today.
MSS Pahang are still reeling after being pipped to the Division Two title by debutants MSN Sabah on goal difference.
“We intend to prove to the Sabah team that we are the better side by dumping favourites UniKL in the quarter-finals,” said MSS Pahang team manager Jamaluddin Sura.
“Of course, UniKL, being Division One runners-up and with 10 players from the Project 2013 squad, are the favourites but we intend to turn the tables on them.
“We do not have any stars but we can bank on our good team work.”
UniKL coach I. Vickneswaren is aware of the danger posed by MSS Pahang and has vowed not to take them lightly.
“It won’t be easy. They have nothing to lose,” said Vickneswaran.
“Our target is to win the title, especially having come so close to lifting the league crown.”
Meanwhile, Division One champions Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS)-Thunderbolt will face Ipoh City Council, the third-placed team from Division Two, at the Tun Razak Stadium today.
The last quarter-final match between Division One teams – Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and BPSS Juniors – will be played on Thursday as seven of the sports school’s players are competing in the four-nation Under-16 tournament in Germany.
The semi-finals (May 28) and final (May 30) will be held at the Tun Razak Stadium.

KUALA LUMPUR: Debutants MSN Sabah are in high spirit after winning the Division Two title of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League.
They have now set their sights on turning the tables on last year’s double champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) in the quarter-finals at the Tun Razak Stadium today.
MSN Sabah coach Paul Raj said his players were all fired up to stun favourites BJSS, who are powered by 10 players from the Project 2013 squad.
“We will go all out to get the better of the sports school and create another piece of history by qualifying for the semi-finals. All the pressure will definitely be on BJSS, who have won either the league or overall title since 2003,” he said.
“We’ll have to come up with a different game plan as BJSS, who will surely be going all out against us to make amends for failing to defend the league title.”
BJSS finished third in Division One, behind champions Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS)-Thunderbolt and newcomers Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL).
Paul said they would be banking on skipper Eldon Lemery, who has scored 15 goals in eight league matches, to inflict pain on BJSS.
BJSS coach S. Prakash, meanwhile, admitted that the pressure would be on them in the quarter-final clash.
“It’s not going to be easy to beat the Sabah team, who are playing exceptionally well. They have nothing to lose since they are making their debut in the tournament,” said Prakash.
“But I am concerned because my boys are not playing to their true form. We also won’t have the services of four players who are in Germany for the four-nation Under-16 tournament.”
The four are defender Nur Amirul Syamin Khalid, midfielders Mohd Fitri Ismail and Mohd Shahiram Zali and forward Mohd Haziq Samsul.
LAST EIGHT PREVIEW
It will be an uphill task for Division Two teams to make an impact in the knockout stage of the MHF-MILO-NSC Junior Hockey League, which starts on Tuesday.
Division Two champions MSN Sabah leads the way with MSS Pahang and Ipoh City Council as the three teams qualified to challenge the top five teams from Division One.
But these three teams will face the top three sides that are the front-runners to win the overall title on Sunday.
Sabah will play defending champions Bukit Jalil Sports School while Division One runners-up UniKL will go up against the Division two runners-up MSS Pahang. These teams are drawn in the lower half of the quarterfinal draw.
In the top half newly crowned league champions Bandar Penawar SS-Thunderbolt will play Division Two’s third place team Ipoh City Council.
The other match will see the two Division One teams, Petaling Jaya City Council play BPSS Juniors. This match will be played on Thursday.
Thus except for the MBPJ-BPSS Juniors match the other three will be a foregone conclusion unless there is a major upset.
But Sabah coach Paul Raj begs to differ and felt they had an even chance at playing BJSS.

UniKL coach I. Vickneswaren said that they have a good idea what is required to win the title.
“But it won’t be easy. It is likely that the Division One teams will have a slight edge but not much where it is dependent on one match.
“We are also determined to win the title after coming close to the league crown. I am sure my players will rise to the occasion,” he said.
The semi-finals will be played on May 28 while the final is slated on May 30 at the Tun Razak Stadium.

The MHF-MILO-NSC Junior Hockey League title will be decided today and the new name will be etched on the trophy after being dominated by one team for the last seven years.
BPSS-Thunderbolt or Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) will be crowned the new Division One league champions after their clash today at the KL Hockey Stadium.
Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) have been the champions since 2003 and the best they can hope to finish this time is in third place.
BPSS-Thunderbolt, a combined team of the Bandar Penawar Sports School and Tenaga Nasional, is the current leader with 21 points.
Newcomers UniKL is second on 19 and their match today is the last of the preliminary round. BPSS have 14 points and will play their last match against lowly MWHA.
UniKL coach I. Vickneswaren said yesterday that this was the most important match for them as it will finally decide the title.
“We are looking forward to the tie as this will give us the chance to win the league title in our debut season.
“But we expect a tough time as the BPSS-Thunderbolt team are also looking for the first title win and they will be well motivated as well. Furthermore they have a strong team with many experience players in their rank,” he said.
Faisal Saari is looming to be the main player for the Sports School combine while Mohamed Sabri Mohamed is the vital cog for UniKL.
Both are the main goal scorers for their respective teams.
Still the tactical planning of the two coaches will play a big part in the outcome. In this case Vickneswaren have to out think Wan Roslan Wan Rahman to ensure they have a winning edge.
In Division Two the title will also be decided today when the final round of matches are played.
Sabah MSN are the favourites to lift the title in their debut season as well. They lead the standings with 18 points and a win over Penang Free School will ensure the title.
MSS Pahang are their nearest rival on 18n points as well but they have a tough match against Ipoh City Council and even then they need to win by a huge margin to counter Sabah’s superior goal count.
However, the cast for the quaterterfinals have been decided.
BPSS-Thunderbolt, UniKL, BJSS, Petaling Jaya City Council and BPSS Juniors are the qualifiers from Division One while from Division Two, the teams are Sabah MSN, MSS Pahang and Ipoh CC.
The knockout stage will begin on Tuesday.
IN SABRI UNIKL TRUST
KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) defender Mohd Sabri Mohd is far from satisfied despite having scored 13 goals in all the seven Division One matches of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League (MJHL) this season.
And it’s all because he has yet to win a silverware in the MJHL.
Versatile: UniKL defender Mohd Sabri Mohd has scored 13 goals.But the 19-year-old Perak players can change all that tomorrow when debutants UniKL take on leaders Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS)-Thunderbolt at the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Stadium.
A win for UniKL in their last league match will see them pipping BPSS-Thunderbolt to the Division One crown.
BPSS-Thunderbolt currently lead the nine-team standings with a maximum 21 points from seven matches while UniKL are two points adrift from six wins and a draw.
Sabri knows that all eyes will be on him to deliver from their penalty corner setpieces in the all-important match against BPSS-Thunderbolt.
“The Johor sports school only need a draw to clinch the league title while we need to collect full points. They will definitely play a defensive game and rely on counter attacks,” said Sabri, who is the younger brother of national player Tajol Rosli.
As such, Sabri is aware that he will also have to get his act right in manning the defence.
“But it’s not going to be easy as they have the services of national forward Faisal (Saari), who is good with his dribbling skills and has scored 13 goals in four matches,” said Sabri.
“I have to mark him closely to make sure he doesn’t score. I have never won a silverware since I started playing for Anderson in the MJHL in 2004.
“I will give my best to help UniKL win our first league crown.”
Sabri played for Anderson for five years before switching to Tenaga Nasional last year. Former champions Tenaga finished third in Division One.
Sabri said that this would be his last chance for glory in the league as he would be ineligible to play in the Under-19 competition next year.
ONE MATCH PLAYOFF FOR QUARTER FINALS
There will be no home-and-away format for the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League (MJHL) knockout stage this season due to the staging of Sukma (Malaysia Games) in Malacca from June 10.
The knockout stage will be held for six days from May 25-30.
The quarter-finals will be played on May 25, the semi-finals on May 27 and the final on May 30.
The quarter-finalists are Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS)-Thunderbolt, UniKL, Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and BPSS Juniors from Division one and Sabah, Pahang and Ipoh City Council from Division Two.
BPSS Juniors, however, will only play their quarter-final match on May 27 because six of their players are in Germany for the four-nation Under-16 tournament from May 22-24.
The team will only return on May 26.
BPSS-Thunderbolt coach Wan Roslan Wan Abdul Rahman, who is also in charge of the BPSS Juniors, confirmed this yesterday.
“If BPSS Juniors qualify for the semi-finals, they will play on the following day (May 28). It will be hectic for them as they will play two matches in two days,” said Wan Roslan.
“It’s better to complete the MJHL knockout stage so that the players can return to their respective states to concentrate on Sukma.”

Coach Wan Roslan Wan Abdul Rahman said that their aim is to win every match and try and win the title.

“We will not discount any of the two teams from winning as well. We have to do what is required by us,”he said.

MBPJ MAKE LAST EIGHT
Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) defeated the national women’s team (MWHA) 3-0 at the Tun Razak Stadium yesterday to secure a place in the knockout stage of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League (MJHL).
MBPJ completed their Division One league fixtures with 13 points from four wins, a draw and four defeats.
With the win yesterday, MBPJ will finish among top five in the nine-team league.
The knockout stage features five team from Division One and three from Division Two.
MWHA are making their debut in the competition and they have yet to secure a point in four matches.
MBPJ, who won the overall title in 2006, went on the offensive and took a 2-0 lead in the first 19 minutes of the match with goals by Mohd Rashid Baharom (11th) and Mohd Faizal Shafiq.
They made it 3-0 with a field goal by Mohd Fahmi Ashari in 37th minute.
MBPJ assistant team manager Zanal Abidin Ismail said that he was happy with his players for collecting full points to seal a place in the knockout stage.
“We have completed our league matches and we will used the next two weeks to prepare for the knockout stage,” he said.

BJSS CONCEDE TITLE RACE
KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) coach S. Prakash has conceded his team have lost the race for the Division One title in the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League after they drew 1-1 with leaders Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) at the Tun Razak Stadium last night.
It was the second successive draw for the defending champions, who played to a 2-2 stalemate against Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) at the same venue on Friday.
Prakash said that the advantage was now with UniKL and Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS)-Thunderbolt.
“We are down by four points and it will be difficult to win the title now. We still have to play against BPSS-Thunderbolt. The way I see it, either UniKL or BPSS-Thunderbolt will win the title,” he said.
“UniKl are a good side and they have very good players. We have to ensure that we win the next two matches to keep up the pressure on the two leading teams. We must at least finish second.”
BJSS had control of the match in the first half and took the lead in the 25th minute through a penalty corner taken by Kavin Kartik.
UniKL equalised in the 46th minute with their top scorer, Mohamed Sabri Mohamed, flicking home a penalty corner. It was his 12th goal of the season – all from penalty corners.
UniKL, who won all their five previous matches, now have two matches more to play – against BPSS-Thunderbolt on May 7 and against BPSS Juniors on May 21.
At the Sultan Azlan Hockey Stadium in Ipoh, Anderson hopes of making the quarter-finals were dented when they were beaten 0-5 by BPSS Juniors.
A win would have virtually sealed Anderson a place among the top five. The Perak side have completed their fixtures with 10 points and BPSS Juniors will pip them to a place in the quarter-finals if they can two of their remaining three matches.
BPSS Juniors scored their win over Anderson with goals by Mohamed Shahzril Saabah (6th), Amir Zulkarnian (32nd), Mohamed Khairul Adha (34th), Mohamed Hanif Azemi (35th) and Mohamed Dzahiruddin (59th).

UNIKL will face double champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) today, and the outcome could well knock out one title contender in Division One of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League.
BJSS were lucky to salvage a point in the 2-2 draw against Petaling Jaya City Council (PJCC) on Friday, but if they do not buck up, they will be in for a drubbing at the hands of UniKL.
"We played in patches against PJCC and paid a heavy price, tomorrow (today) we have a second chance to salvage matters against UniKL and my players know that they can't afford another mediocre display if they want to keep the title," said BJSS coach S. Prakash.
UniKL coach I. Vickneswaran watched the BJSS-PJCC match and concluded that the sports school took matters lightly.
"My point of observation was that BJSS placed too much emphasis on preparing for the match against us, and took PJCC lightly.
"However, now that they have dropped two points, they will be out to make amends against us, and it could well turn out to be an exciting encounter," said Vickneswaran.
The winners today still have Bandar Penawar Sports School Thunderbolt to contend with, as the southern sports school have also shown promise.
"We will approach the BJSS match with confidence and I have a good feeling that my players will not disappoint. However, there is still Thunderbolt to play before we can start breathing easy," said Vickneswaran.
In Division Two, leaders Ipoh City Council are expected to have an easy time collecting three points and further consolidating their position when they play Negri Sembilan side Datuk Taha in Tampin.

Prakash said the pressure got to the players in the match against MBPJ.
“Sure, we have started slowly but I think the players are improving with each game. There was pressure in the MBPJ match and we could not handle it,” he said.
“Now it is a must-win situation in our remaining matches if we want to keep the league title.
“The players know this and, hopefully, will rise to the challenge.”
BJSS will definitely have to raise their game as UniKL are a potent attacking force and, in Mohd Sabri Mohd, they have a good penalty corner flicker.
Prakash, knowing that they have a battle on their hands, wants his boys to keep their defensive play tight and not give away unnecessary penalty corners.
BJSS have only conceded three goals after five matches – and two of those were against MBPJ.
“For me the other results do not matter now. The title is still within our grasp provided we win the remaining matches. So I am not unduly worried. It is ours to lose,” he said.
For UniKL, a draw will be good as they then only have to worry about BPSS-Thunderbolt.
BPSS-Thunderbolt have no matches this weekend as their match against the BJSS Juniors has been moved to May 23.
Thus, both teams will have to go all out for a win and then wait for the face-off against BPSS-Thunderbolt.

MBPJ EXPOSE FLAWS

Defending champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) paid the price for their poor defending when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) in a Division One match of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League at the Tun Razak Stadium here yesterday.
The draw has dented BJSS’ title hopes, handing the advantage to Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and BPSS-Thunderbolt.
BJSS are now second in the nine-team standings with 13 points from five matches. UniKL lead the way with 15 points while BPSS-Thunderbolt have 12 and with a game in hand.
BJSS knew they had to win yesterday’s match as they would be facing their title rivals in the coming weeks.
But, despite taking a two-goal lead in the first half – courtesy of Faridzul Afiq Mohamed’s brace in the 10th and 31st minutes – they blew up after the break.
A mistake just a minute after the break saw MBPJ earn a penalty stroke, which was converted by Mohd Ismat Imadi.
MBPJ’s fightback paid off when Mohd Izat Hakimi scored the equaliser, off a penalty corner, in the 66th minute.
Earlier, Sabah’s unbeaten run in Division Two came to end in Ipoh yesterday when they lost 1-3 to Ipoh City Council at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium.
Ipoh CC now lead the lower division with 14 points after six matches. There are two more games to go before the preliminary round ends.
Sabah, with nine points from four matches, are still in the title hunt as they have four matches left.
Ipoh CC went 2-0 up in the first half through Mohd Harris Fadila (14th minute) and Mohd Saifuddin (31st).
Sabah pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute through Herik Ahmad Syam but Ipoh CC sealed victory four minutes later through Mohd Azrul Fazrin’s goal.
At the Kuantan Hockey Stadium, MSS Pahang edged Penang Free School (PFS) 5-4 to remain unbeaten after four matches.
The win moves the Pahang team into second place with 12 points.
Mohd Fahmi Abdullah scored a hat-trick in the 25th, 27th and 40th minutes while Mohd Hafiz Zainol and Zulhannan Mazlan chipped in with a goal each in the 58th and 61st minutes respectively.
PFS’ scorers were Mohd Hafify Mohd Rodzi (4th and 69th), Mohd Ammar Adly Abd Rahman (37th) and Muhd Uzair Ahmad Sabri (49th).
In the final Division Two match of the day, MSN Johor and Matri drew 1-1 to share the points.
